Project Information

Reference Number 20000142
Project Title Evaluation of Transgenic Rice Carrying Viral Gene Sequences for Resistance to Tungro Viruses
Project Type Contained Use
Status Completed
Name of Institution International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Los Baños, Laguna
Cooperating Institution John Innes Center (JIC), Norwhich, UK
Supervising IBC IRRI-IBC
Project Leader(s) P. Q. Cabauatan, Senior Associate Scientist
Experimental Facility/Site IRRI, Philippines
Purpose / Objectives 1. To test the transgenic rice for resistance to tungro viruses by biological assay.
2. To analyze any promising transgenic line for transgene expression and transgene integration by molecular methods.
3. To study the mechanism of resistance found in transgenic rice.
Biosafety measures 1. All experiments with transgenic
rice will be done in Bay 8 of the CL4.
2. Panicles will be bagged at the flowering stage to prevent the release of pollen.
3. Plants, insects, and soil used in these experiments will be autoclaved and incinerated at the end of each experiment.
4. All generated seeds will be kept in sealed plastic bags inside a sealed container separately from the non- transgenic seeds.
