Purpose / Objectives 1. To produce transgenic rice varieties and elite breeding lines carrying the pin2 gene for stem borer resistance.
2. To characterize the transgenic varieties/ lines in terms of presence and number of copies of the pin2 gene.
3. To conduct screen house evaluation of the transgenic lines for their reaction to stemborer as well as other agronomic traits.

Conditions for Approval The committee requires an additional study of the pin expression at various life/developmental stages in the rice plant as well as its expression in various tissues of the rice plant.
