Purpose / Objectives To evaluate the project and apply for permit to import clones of tungro viruses obtained by the collaborators at Scripps for labeling with non- radioactive substances like digoxigenin or biotin. the labeled clones will be used as probes for the detection and measurement of nucleic acids specific to the tungro virus in rice, other host and insect vector.

Conditions for Approval Should comply with the Phil. Biosafety Guidelines with the provision that the insect vector, the leafhopper, be contained and be properly destroyed after feeding on the rice seedlings.
