Reference Number 20060212
Project Title Identification of Genes conferring Broad Spectrum Disease Resistance in Rice
Project Type Contained Use
Status N/A
Name of Institution International Rice Research Institute, CIMMYT, Mexico
Cooperating Institution Ko Shimamoto, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan
Supervising IBC Biosafety of Committee of IRRIq
Project Leader(s) Hei Leung, Plant Pathologist
Experimental Facility/Site Laboratory in PBGB Building (Tissue Culture/Transformation Laboratory)
Purpose / Objectives To validate the function of a candidate gene (a putative Ubox-ARM gene) conferring broad spectrum to blast and bacterial blight in rice.
Biosafety measures 1.Primary transformants will be evaluated for DNA integration. These experiments will be done in the Tissue Culture/Transformation lab.
2.Selected transformants will be evaluated for bacterial blight and leaf blast resistance. These experiments will be conducted in CL4.
3.Transgenic plants will be kept in the CL4 transgenic greenhouse, where a security system prevents access of unauthorized personnel.
4. The plant materials, pots and soil for disposal from CL4 will be
placed in sealed plastic bags and autoclaved at high temperature
and high pressure.
5.Transgenic seeds harvested from CL4 will be stored in transgenic seed storage facility (KJ Lampe Building). Movement of all materials will be done in compliance of all relevant biosafety and phytosanitary requirements of the Philippines.
