Project Title Evaluation of Transgenic Rice Plants with Virus- Derived Genes for Resistance to Tungro
Project Type Contained Use (Greenhouse)
Status N/A
Name of Institution International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Los Baños, Laguna
Cooperating Institution The Scripps Research Institute (SRI)
Supervising IBC IRRI-IBC
Project Leader(s) H. Koganezawa, Plant Pathologist, IRRI
Experimental Facility/Site IRRI-Philippines
Purpose / Objectives To evaluate transgenic rice for resistance to rice tungro disease.
Biosafety measures 1. Plants will be kept in isolation in a Phytotron which will be sealed to prevent unauthorized entry of persons and especially the insect vector. Plants will be placed in mylar plastic tubes for inoculation. The plants will in turn be placed in a screen cage which will be placed in the individual growth chamber within the phytotron.
