Purpose / Objectives To test whether increasing the genes for alcoholic fermentation in plants results in an increased tolerance to flooding via increased energy production.
Biosafety measures 1. Plants will be kept in isolation in a Phytotron which will be sealed to prevent unauthorized entry of persons. In any work involving growth of plants >30 day old plants will be grown in the CL4 greenhouse.
2. After experiments any unused tissues or used media will be autoclaved before discarding.
3. Seeds produced by the transgenic plants will be kept in sealed plastic bags separately from other seeds.
4. All plant tissues and soil used in the experiment will be autoclaved and incinerated.
