Purpose / Objectives 1. To be used for rice transformation studies.

2. To know the effect of different promoters in the level of expression in rice plants.

3. Optimization of conditions for PEG- mediated and electroporation transformation using plasmids pKan, PGL- 2, pTRA132, pT075, pTO67 and others when available.

4. Regeneration of transformed calli of selected japonica and indica varieties

5. Production of plants carrying a gene of economic importance
Biosafety measures 1. Plants will be grown in Phytotron, a facility with containment capabilities.

2. The flowers of the plants will be bagged to prevent spread of pollen in the environment.

3. Seeds will be harvested and stored. All plants will be destroyed.
