Purpose / Objectives 1. To study the means by which genes can be transferred to the pleoromutilin- producing organism through classical or recombinant DNA techniques.
2. Strain improvement of the pleoromutilin- producing organism.
Biosafety measures 1. Laboratory personnel will be oriented on the proper procedure in sterilization, decontamination and containment of organisms to be used.
2. DNA manipulation experiments will be done at BIOTECH and the IBS Research Laboratories equipped with laminar flow hoods, isolation chambers, safety incubators for culture transfer and storage; ultraviolet sterilizing lamps.
3. Sterilization and decontamination of media, solutions and other materials will be done by using an autoclave set at 15 psi for 15 mins. Wastes considered toxic will be collected in glass bottles, to be properly labelled and brought to RITM, Alabang for incineration.
