Last November 11, the National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (NCBP) in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) conducted a Forum on the Development, Adoption, and Regulation of Gene Transfer Systems and other New and Emerging Technologies in Plant Breeding in Makati City.

The Forum aimed to provide a new perspective in genome editing technologies, as well as new technologies and regulation systems around the globe. It was graced by Dr. Wayne Parrott, USDA Biotech Outreach Speaker, and was participated by members of Institutional Biosafety Committees (IBCs), project proponents, regulators from Competent National Authorities (CNAs), and members of private industries.

This activity falls with NCBP’s endeavor to continue strengthening the biosafety regulatory system in the country. It also aimed to promote capacity building and dialogue among its stakeholders regarding biotechnology issues and other emerging plant breeding technologies.
